Abandoned after 10 heats, result stands (Cradley win 86-65 on aggregate)

The Fusion Clothing Lynn Young Stars’ dream of landing their first-ever major trophy ended at a soggy Monmore Green on Tuesday.

Reigning National League champions the Heathens, who were already four points up from the first leg, recorded three 4-2 heat advantages and a 5-1 maximum in the first four heats, thus effectively deciding the contest.

Cradley followed this with a 5-0 in Heat 5 when Tom Stokes fell and retired and guest Ben Morley fell and was excluded.

Paul Starke bagged a three-ride maximum for the hosts, while Morley top scored for Lynn with eight points after he won Heat 8 on Rider Replacement and a double-scoring tactical ride.

Rain was falling by Heat 7 and the meeting was abandoned three races later.

Heathens: Nathan Greaves 6, Max Clegg 11, Tom Perry 6+3, Paul Starke 9, Matt Williamson 4, Danny Phillips 3+1.

Cradley also retained the National League Fours with a dominant 18-point display in the final, where Lynn were fourth after totalling eight points, at Coventry on Sunday.

A tight contest between three clubs in the second group saw Lynn and Mildenhall edge out Stoke. James Cockle (4) top-scored for Lynn.

n Lynn Stars skipper Rory Schlein won the 16 Lap Classic at Ipswich with 21 points.
