Review of Brothers In Arms in Walpole St Andrew: Restaurant offers a proper fry-up for a great price
You can’t beat a fry-up on a Sunday morning, right? Me and my parents decided to drive down to the Brothers in Arms at Walpole St Andrew for a spot of breakfast. I myself hadn’t been before previously but my parents had and sung its praises.
On arrival, we were greeted by a friendly member of staff behind the bar who showed us to our table. We didn’t book before arriving and without knowing turned up five minutes before they stopped serving breakfast at 10.30am.
Luckily, after the waitress spoke to the chef, they managed to squeeze us in – much to our delight.
Upon entering the building, you couldn’t help but gaze up at the unique décor hanging up. There were pieces of agricultural paraphernalia which really suited the feel of the restaurant.
We ordered drinks first. Me and my mum ordered a cappuccino (£2.25) each and my dad had a cup of tea (£2.25) which arrived in good time.
Me and mum really enjoyed our coffees, which were nice and creamy.
To eat, I opted for the smashed avocado on toast (£6) which included the option of being served with either grilled halloumi or two poached eggs - I opted for the latter.
I don’t really eat breakfast that often, but when I do, I really enjoy a poached egg. They were cooked to perfection and had a runny yoke and the avocado was well seasoned and I appreciated the extra slice of toast on the side.
My mum had the Brothers small breakfast which consisted of two sausages, two slices of bacon, a fried egg, mushrooms and toast (£6.25) and my dad decided to have the Brothers big breakfast (£10), which came with three sausages, three slices of bacon, two free range fried eggs, beans, mushrooms, tomatoes, black pudding, sautéed potatoes and toast.
We were all really impressed with our meals, my parents saying it was the best fry-up they’ve had in the area for a while.
My dad complimented his rather huge breakfast and said that the sautéed potatoes were a nice touch to a traditional fry-up and mum said for a ‘small’ breakfast, you got a lot for your money and that it was really tasty.
The only thing I would have liked to have seen on the menu was a vegetarian version of a full English perhaps, although there were plenty of vegetarian and a couple of vegan options, too.
All of our food was top notch and delicious and we all said how eager we are to try their main menu in future.
We were all really impressed with how much food you got for the price (£29.60). It was great value for money and I know we’ll be making a swift return.
