A spectacular exhibition of light at Houghton Hall
Chris Levine is an artist known for his portraits of Queen Elizabeth II, public figures and celebrities such as Kate Moss.
His current exhibition entitled 528 Hz Love Frequency is at Houghton Hall from October 22 until December 23.
A famous portrait of the Queen in a relaxed and meditative state, with her eyes closed, is reflective of his works that explore stillness and meditation.
Seeing these public figures captured like this in relaxed contemplation furthers the artist's spiritual outlook on creating a more compassionate world.
It is a stunning light focused art installation incorporating sound that draws the viewer into a meditative and calming journey around the exquisite backdrop of Houghton Hall.
The pictures of the Queen, Kate Moss and other public figures are exhibited in the South Wing Gallery, lit up in a darkened space with lasers that project almost like spun sugar.
I won't spoil elements of the installations, but once night has fallen and you are guided through a canopy of lights and lasers along a hedge-rowed path, drawn slowly and ceremonially towards a cross, what awaits at the end is both magical and shows a real humour to Chris Levine's work.
The lockdowns provided many of us with the blessings of time, to disengage from noise and distraction and take a quieter approach to life.
Chris Levine said: "Art is more than just the rectangular, it is about sharing experience and stillness and laser light in its purest form allows us not to think about things and for out minds to get quiet."
"It helps us to get in touch with the intimate space inside us, from the heart and question the nature of reality."
The name of the exhibition, 528 Hz Love Frequency is significant.
He said: "It represents the middle note on an ancient scale, the heart shakra, the core of creation, a natural high and the exploration of something intimately.
"The portrait of the Queen in a meditative state is deeper and more spiritual with a sense of calm. Kate Moss, even though she is beautiful shows it is what's inside that is real beauty."
Houghton Hall is a regular host of modern art exhibitions and Lord Lord Cholmondeley said: "I always remembered Chris' show and his moving laser work and we talked about doing something and I just had to do a show with Chris here.
"Now it has come to fruition it is amazing and exciting."
The use of modern technology in a traditional setting allows the viewer to get past the technology to a more emotional response and this is art on a cosmic scale.
Chris Levine will also be exhibiting his installations at Glastonbury next year for the 50th anniversary, projecting the site with his laser and if you're a fan of VW Campervans, this is a little clue to what you might find in the grounds of Houghton Hall.
