The Arts Society King’s Lynn continues its new season as it invites a speaker to talk about the impact of Chinese porcelain.

The society welcomes Jane Gardiner to speak on the topic of ‘Chinamania – The Impact of Chinese Porcelain on European Taste, Collecting and Display’ on Thursday, February 13 at West Winch Village Hall.

She has an MA in History of Art from the University of London and trained at the V&A where she continues to lecture.

Jane was a senior lecturer at Sotheby’s Institute of Art for 17 years, becoming a deputy director of Sotheby’s Buckingham University.

When the very first Chinese porcelains found their way to Europe, the beauty and fragility of the material led to their being mounted with precious metal and treasured alongside other rare and exotic objects such as ostrich eggs and rock crystal vessels.

This talk will examine the enormous and long-lasting influence that these Chinese porcelains had on European taste and culture and the whole history of interior design.

The lecture will start at 2.30pm and costs £10 for non-members.
