King's Lynn arts and showbiz events taking place are shared in Andy Tyler's column That's Entertainment from Friday, March 10 -16

As you’d expect with Easter just about a month away there’s plenty of enjoyable varied events coming our way, so have those diaries and phones at the ready to make the relevant bookings!

It’s always great to flag up a worth-while cause, and this week I mention a forthcoming Easter egg hunt organised for local children by Linnets in The Community, the registered charity partner of the King’s Lynn Town Football Club.

The event takes place on April 6, at The Walks Stadium and is open to the public.

It is hoped children taking part in the hunt will have an Easter egg on completing the course. Jodie Hopkins, the community manager, would very much appreciate any support or donations, so please contact her on 07825150554 or her email on: community@kltown.co.uk thanks!

The King’s Lynn Festival, taking place this year between July 16 and 29 looks to be another winner. The usual high quality, exciting events including music, talks, films and much more are on offer.

The Black Dyke Band and Royal Philharmonic Orchestra will perform, and Julian Lloyd Webber, Kiki Dee, Clive Anderson and poet laureate Simon Armitage should all appear. More details to follow, but in the meantime why not become a Festival Patron or Friend? For more information visit: www.kingslynnfestival.org.uk

Members of the local book club who meet at the Stuart House Hotel are currently reading an old, but classic favourite Scoop, by Evelyn Waugh. Why not take some time out, read the book and come along to the hotel at 5pm on Wednesday, April 12? A lively, but friendly discussion will no doubt take place! Refreshments are, as always, available.

A reminder there’s just over a week to go before the King’s Lynn Players proudly present, by arrangement with Bloomsbury Publishing, a production of Jeffrey Archer’s play The Accused. Performances start from next Thursday, March 16 and run until Saturday, March 18. Performances are nightly at 7.30pm with a Saturday matinee at 2.30pm. The trial takes place at the Guildhall of St.George, Lynn! Book now on01553 764864. Don’t prove guilty for missing out!

Now is definitely the time to visit the Music in the Burnhams website for details of the new season of fine concerts, taking place near the North Norfolk coast. Standards are always high and there’s something for everyone to enjoy; musicintheburnhams.com will give all the details.

The Hunstanton and District Festival of Arts holds its AGM, next Wednesday, March 15, at 6.30pm. The meeting takes place at the Conservative Club function room in Hunstanton’s High Street. Those interested are welcome to attend, find out more and possibly volunteer. It’s just the ticket for arts lovers! For more details contact the current secretary on 01485 533 933.

The King’s Lynn Music Society will meet at Lynn’s Town Hall next Wednesday evening for a talk to be given by Sandy Burnett on that fine early English composer William Byrd. The composer lead a fascinating life, and he composed much well loved music. He died in July 1623, four hundred years ago. This celebratory talk begins at 7.30pm. Coffee is available in the Stone Hall from 7pm.

My movie of the week is a Belgian foreign language film Close. It’s a moving story concerned with the close teenage relationship of two boys and how they cope with school and home life. Tragedy strikes, but I won’t spoil things with more plot details.

Catch the film if you can, and be prepared for an emotional roller coaster!

My book of the week has to be the new set of short stories by that most successful writer Margaret Atwood. It has the intriguing title Old Babes in the Wood and it’s available now!

Don’t forget there’s plenty to enjoy at Lynn’s Alive Corn Exchange and Hunstanton’s Princess Theatre and readers can even book now for the two venue’s pantos being presented at year’s end.
