Bands will battle in semi-finals

This weekend it’s the semi-final stage of the Twisted Melon Battle Of The Bands, writes Triston Finnis.

Last Thursday evening all 12 acts were showcased to KL.FM’s Loaded with Triston and, at the end of this semi-final radio show, voting opened, allowing the public to have their say on which acts they’d like to see performing on the Festival Too stage.

Over the weekend all 12 acts perform live across two semi-finals at The Wildfowler in Lynn. Semi 1 is Saturday from 6.30pm while Semi 2 is on Sunday from 2pm. The public vote will be added to the judges’ scores and three acts will progress to the six-act final at the Duke’s Head Hotel on Sunday, June 2.

SEMI-FINAL 1: ASBESTØS

Pop punk band formed in Cambridgeshire in late 2015 by vocalist/guitarist Matt Everett and drummer Joe Richardson.

They enrolled bassist and backing vocalist James Allison in 2016. In April 2017 they recorded their first self-titled EP, featuring songs like ‘Shadower’, ‘Richardhead’ and ‘Hotel’. They’ve played London, Saffron Walden and Bury St Edmunds.

DECAY THE OCEAN

Lynn Metalcore act: “We take our music seriously, through all the tough times we pull together, don’t let anyone tell you nothing is possible! With effort and hard work the impossible can become possible!”

ELUDERS

Fin Heighton-Jupp and Brianna Burge’s angsty punk with heartfelt political lyrics. It’s loud, but it’s also pure, original, current and edgy. Thinks Slaves, Idles, Fontaines DC or The Murder Capital!

THE HOT ONE TWO

Five-piece Cambridge originals band bringing the sound of classic rock mixed with today’s modern attitude. THOT are: Nick Manners – lead guitar & bvs, Nick Blackburn – bass & bvs, Ben Knowles – guitar, Joe Chivers – drums, Simon West – lead vocals.

KAVES

Norwich-based indie four-piece born at the beginning of 2017. They feature Caitlin Mates, Matt Dove, Mia Webster and Tim Frost.

PRETTY ACE

Formed in 2013, four sisters from Emneth write and perform all of their own music. The girls are a Brit rock/pop girl band: Martine Frusher (lead guitar & vocals), Tyeshia Frusher (lead vocalist & guitar), Montana Frusher (bass guitar & vocals), Ceira Frusher (drums & vocals).

SEMI-FINAL 2: ANTHONY RUBERY

In 2017, ‘Intoxicated’, the lead single from his debut EP ‘Rough Sketch’, flew to No.1 in the Cambridge Unsigned Chart. The song broke two records, most consecutive weeks at No.1 (9) and most total weeks at No.1 (15).

Nominated for Best Male Solo Act at the Cambridge NMG Awards, and played at The Garage (Islington) and The Junction (Cambridge).

THE ECHO CHAMBER

Rock and pop covers band based in Norwich, playing The Beatles to Blondie, Fleetwood Mac to the Foo Fighters. In late 2017, original guitar and bass duo Jarmy and Mark added powerful lead vocals by Kerry and a solid backbeat from Seb. The band offer a female-fronted twist, with influences from Jimi Hendrix, Manic Street Preachers, Tina Turner and The Killers.

LIGHT SKIES DARKEN

East Anglia’s ‘must see’ female fronted classic/prog rock trio. Featuring Lizzy and Reubes Cocksedge (Screaming Beauty, The Pure Floyd Show) alongside YouTube sensation Daniel Jones. Their debut EP ‘Stare into the Sun’ had strong support from various radio stations (BBC, Total Rock, ProgRock.com, KL.FM etc) and Grapevine Live magazine, who featured the trio as their front cover in December 2018.

SETTLEM3NT

Four-piece rock/blues/grunge band based in Norwich, they are influenced by the likes of Alice in Chains, Deftones and Nirvana. The band features Aiden – vocals / lead guitar, Charlie – rhythm guitar, Bill – bass guitar & Brett – drums.

STRETCH SOUL GANG

Sudbury based six-piece collective. With soulful vocals, funky basslines, hip-hop grooves and jazzy-type bits... occasionally. Influences are from James Brown, Anderson Paak, De la Soul, The Milk & Lazy Habits. They are: Jamie Hicks – rapper, Alfie Row – guitar/vocals, Max Bridges – bass, Camden Clarke – drums, Louis Hicks – alto saxophone & Ben Mason – tenor sax/vocals.

TELLING TRUTHS

Hailing from Norwich, a female-fronted five-piece featuring Georgi, Adam, Rich, Natalie and Dan who create thought-provoking alternative rock. Debut EP, Desires & Visions, arrived in mid-2018 featuring singles ‘Perspective, ‘Alone’ and ‘Cover Your Tracks’; new EP “In My Mind” has just been released.
