Wereham to host Jubilee fun day and finale concert
A finale concert is being planned by Wereham Village Hall as part of their big fun day celebrations in June for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.
The evening event Bright Lights and Live Music on Saturday, June 4, will feature a line up following an afternoon full of family fun and entertainment in and around the village hall.
Starting at 7pm on the village green and with a full professional sound, lighting and staging rig, this special concert promises to be a fantastic finale to a day full of free entertainment for the community.
With artists performing music from a variety of different genres there will certainly be something to suit everyone’s musical taste.
Headlining the concert are the Dukes of Swing, performing a great selection of some of the most popular jazz and swing numbers both old and new.
Including songs made famous by such artists as Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Junior, Dean Martin and Tony Bennett and more recently by Michael Buble, Robbie Williams and Jamie Cullum, they are fronted by Benjamin Lock.
Lock is a charismatic and smooth sounding jazz singer from Kent with experience of performing all over the UK at top venues and clubs.
The line-up also consists of the hugely talented Chris Kennedy on piano, Darren Reynolds on double bass and Mark Stitson on drums.
There will also be an opportunity to hear some exciting local solo artists with a great mix of songs and music.
The village hall is particularly pleased to welcome Ukrainian singer Olena Polyvach to perform at this concert.
Karen Everitt community engagement and venue manager said: "Olena is a professional singer, actress and director from Kyiv.
"Forced to escape the devastating events taking place in her native country, and leaving behind her husband and beloved cats, Olena has recently arrived in the UK with her one year old daughter to join her host family in Whittington."
Olena said: "I had no idea what to do or where to go, but my English family have been supporting us since the first day of the Russian invasion and they invited us to stay with them.
"It took us a month to get to the UK, but now I feel safe and at home.
"I want to say thank you to all UK people for their support and care, and especially to my wonderful English family for having us. I'm very pleased to be able take part in this concert.
"See you soon. Slava Ukraini, Heroyam slava."
Karen said: "Olena is multi-lingual and will delight the Wereham audience with songs in both English and Ukrainian, a wonderful way to reach out to other visitors from the Ukraine who are currently living in the local area.
To complete the fantastic line-up for this concert will be Bill Mathis, an established acoustic musician, singer and songwriter, living in Downham Market.
He performs a variety of popular covers and crowd-pleasing numbers from the 70s onwards from artists such as Van Morrison, the Eagles, Ed Sheeran and George Ezra, as well as original material.
Bill has been playing music for over 30 years and is a very popular artist on the local music scene, performing regularly at a variety of venues and at a number of fund-raising events recently.
Wereham Village Hall is delighted to present what promises to be a great evening’s entertainment for all the family, and extends a very warm welcome to the people of Wereham and the wider community to attend this free outdoor concert next to the village hall, where there’s plenty of room for everyone.
