Blockbuster summer of events at King’s Lynn Museum
A series of four Thursday drop-in event days for families are being held at Lynn Museum this month, with the chance to meet costumed characters, handle real historical artefacts, and make fun crafts to take home.
On August 3, you can explore the world of a local Celtic tribe called the Iceni, as you meet the warriors and prepare for battle against the Romans.
Journey back to the thriving medieval port town of Bishop’s Lynn on August 10 to discover how people lived, worked, and traded in West Norfolk.
August 17 will see the colourful world of the Victorian fairground come alive. Learn about Lynn’s famous ride engineer Frederick Savage, discover how carousels are made, and explore historic games.
Finally, on August 24, the Second World War comes to Lynn Museum. From childhood games to real air raid equipment, discover what life was like for people on the Home Front in wartime Norfolk.
Activities run between 10am-12.30pm and 1.30pm-4pm. Tickets are £3 per adult, £2 per child, and free for Norfolk Museums pass holders and voucher holders. Booking is recommended, but not essential. Tickets are available via norfolk-museums.arttickets.org.uk/lynn-museum or by contacting the museum.
Lynn Museum will also be hosting the Summer Trails Challenge. Throughout the summer there will be seven different themed museum trails, with a small prize for all who complete one, and a bonus prize on offer for visitors who take on the challenge of completing four or more of the trails.
Trails: Now to July 30: Taylor’s Seeds; August 1-6: Find the Treasure; August 8-13: Medieval Hunt; August 15-20: Coconut Shy; August 22-27: Spitfire Search; August 29 – 5th September 5: Dinosaur Detective; September 10: Let’s Create! (For Heritage Open Day).
