Brand new pumpkin festival at Pensthorpe nature reserve over October half-term – with a free pumpkin per paying child

A nature reserve is set to transform into a pumpkin-filled land as it prepares to host its first-ever pumpkin festival over the October half-term.

Pensthorpe this year is expanding its Halloween festivities by creating a brand new patch with thousands of pumpkins to choose from, along with lots of photo opportunities, a toffee apple station, marshmallow toasting and so much more.

Plus each child receives a free pumpkin to pick, collect and then carve in their dedicated carving barn.

Mini witches and wizards can enjoy a whole 10 days of pumpkin-related fun with flamingo talks, spooky crafts and a themed trail, along with access to the brand new pumpkin patch between October 25 and November 3.

As well as a bewitching concoction of fun activities, Pensthorpe is hosting a competition for local schools and nurseries to build the ultimate scarecrow with visitors attending the pumpkin festival voting for their favourite design.

All scarecrows will be displayed at Pensthorpe over the half-term and the winning entry will be invited on a class trip to the reserve.

Ben Marshall, managing director of Pensthorpe, said: “We love this time of year when the season changes.

“Events have become a huge draw for us and our visitors and so this year we have planned a huge improvement to our offering by creating our purpose-built pumpkin patch which will be filled with thousands of pumpkins.

“As well as this we’re working hard on creating a multitude of photo opportunities so families can capture that perfect seasonal shot.

“We know our visitors loved the element of adding a pumpkin to their visit last year, that’s why this year we have upped the theme and every paying child can collect a free pumpkin and carve it with us.

“They can even leave their creation in our new pumpkin creche to be looked after whilst they enjoy everything else we have on offer, ready to collect at the end of the day.

“We know value for money and no hidden charges are important to our visitors, this is why we feel this is the perfect event for families to experience themed all-inclusive fun, whilst also getting out into nature which for us is a win-win in our eyes.”

Tickets for the event are available from www.pensthorpe.com
