Discover Downham hosting 'Lady Chillers' Halloween stories on October 19
Close to Halloween, Discover Downham is holding something slightly different for its monthly meeting – on Wednesday, October 19 at 7.30pm it will host ‘Lady Chillers’.
Lady Chillers welcomes you to an evening of ghostly entertainment, delivered from the pens of some of the best Victorian and Edwardian women authors of the supernatural.
Presented by Christine Pike, she tells creepy ghost stories, written by some of the best women authors you’ve probably never heard of. Tales of madness, vampires, and vengeance from beyond the grave are brought to vivid life in dramatic readings by a talented vocal performer with a large repertoire of stories from England and the USA.
With just a lectern and some atmospheric lighting Lady Chillers creates an intimate and informal setting in which to enjoy an evening of Gothic story telling.
The performance consists of four stories with a short interval in the middle. Christine also provides some brief biographical notes and background introduction to each one. The stories have been edited for length, albeit with a light touch, to preserve as much of the original as possible, while making them accessible to modern ears.
The performance is suitable for anyone aged over 14. Tickets at £6 are available in advance from the steward's desk at Discover Downham/email info@discoverdownham.org.uk or phone 01366 384428.
You will be invited to have a free glass of wine or a hot/cold drink to help enjoy the evening. There will be limited availability at the door.
