King’s Lynn Community Cinema Club returns to St George’s Guildhall for final screening before moving to Majestic Cinema

King’s Lynn Community Cinema Club will be returning to St George’s Guildhall for one final time for its annual winter matinee before the historic venue’s refurbishment.

On Sunday at 3pm, the club will be screening the classic rom-com The Philadelphia Story before it moves all of its regular monthly films going forward to its new home, the Majestic Cinema on Tower Street.

The Philadelphia Story was adapted from a play specially written for Katharine Hepburn and after she had starred in more than 400 performances on Broadway, she cleverly bought the film rights from under the noses of Hollywood moguls.

The subsequent 1940 film directed by George Cukor, starred Hollywood legends Cary Grant, James Stewart and Hepburn and won two Oscars.

It is a typical screwball comedy, with Hepburn playing a rich socialite about to remarry, when her ex-husband, determined to win her back, and a pair of tabloid-type reporters, looking for a good story, turn up just before the wedding and disrupt her plans.

Club members will have the opportunity to extend their afternoon with a post-film Indian supper provided by “excellent” local caterers Coriander and Lime.

As with any KLCCC films, over 18-year-olds are welcome to go along and can pay £5 cash on the door.
