Review of Circus Mondao in King’s Lynn: Acts brought laughter, enjoyment and amazement to audience

Our reporter Molly Nicholas recently visited the circus - and had a wonderful time…

Circus Mondao, which has been coming to Lynn for a long time, has returned to the area with an assortment of stunts which render you speechless and comedy acts to leave you in stitches.

As someone who loves the circus and has been going since I was a very young age, I knew what to expect to a certain degree - but the evening of entertainment on Wednesday did not disappoint - however it will never be as good as it was all those years ago in my childhood.

When I turned up at Knights Hill on the night, half an hour before the performance, the queue was across the car park - I had never seen as many people waiting to go into the circus. It was particularly nice to see a large crowd taking in the event, as many I have attended in the past have only been less than half full.

The circus was slightly delayed and did not start until 7.50pm – the start time was meant to be 7.30pm.

The traditional circus provided a welcoming atmosphere as soon as you stepped in, with children able to join in and interact with Kikin the clown, who was providing plenty of laughs. This was especially the case when two audience members were called up to the ring to participate in one of his many acts – a tight rope used as a washing line.

New for this year was the pirates act which included lots of flips and Kikin in a pirate ship which got the audience shouting with excitement, especially when he was being chased by a shark.

Highlights of the 90-minute show included horse tricks, amazing acrobatics, roller skating, the death wheel, princesses with their birds and many more.

One of my favourite acts was the juggler from Ethiopia, who I thought was very talented especially when he had more than five balls going at once, bouncing off a board.

Later, the giant wheel of death in centre stage wowed the crowds - myself included - when two men were walking on the outside of the wheels at the top of the big tent. One even did a summersault which had the audience sitting on the edge of their seats.

There is still time to pop along to one of the circus performances – it will be at Knights Hill until Sunday.

On Friday it will be on at 6pm, Saturday at 2pm and 6pm and its final show on Sunday is at 2pm.
