Classical Music Rocks concert present varied and engaging recital at King’s Lynn Town Hall

Review: Classical Music Rocks concert

Lynn Town Hall

Having spent a successful and enjoyable day with children at primary schools in Clenchwarton and West Lynn, Anthony Flaum (tenor) and Siobhain O’Higgins (piano) moved on to Lynn’s historic Town Hall to present a varied and engaging recital comprising of songs and solo piano works by composers as diverse as Schubert, Rachmaninoff, Puccini, Britten, Ireland, and others not so well known; Tosti, William Finn, and Pablo Sorozabal.

The concert had as it’s theme Songs of Nature, and some songs, sung with confidence and clarity by Anthony had obvious connections with the natural world. Spring Waters (Rachmaninoff), The Foggy Foggy Dew,( Britten), Sea Fever, ( Ireland), and On the Sea, (Schubert ), were examples of these. Other songs such as O Sole Mio and Oh What A Beautiful Mornin’ are well known and went down well with the audience.

The Schubert solo piano pieces, two impromptus in G Flat and A Flat, D.899 were sensitively played and interpreted by Siobhain. Audience members had the opportunity to ‘sing along’ at the recital’s end. Thanks to the artists and The Classical Music Rocks organisation for presenting an enjoyable and satisfying musical event.
