King's Lynn columnist Andy Taylor summarises what's happening in arts and showbiz column That's Entertainment
It’s that time of the year when many of us are planning holidays or breaks to be taken during the coming months.
All being well, I should be visiting Lynn’s twin town of Emmerich-am-Rhein in late May, and I certainly recommend a visit there. Lynn has been twinned with Emmerich since 1978 and the friendly association encourages social, cultural and sporting exchanges between the two towns.
For those readers who may be interested in forming contacts with Emmerich, and also take part in social events held by the club locally, just ‘google’ King’s Lynn/Emmerich Twinning Club, for all the details.
Details of the main King’s Lynn Festival events for this summer should be available very soon. Keep an eye on the website.
The equally popular Festival Too will take place this year between Saturday June 24 and Saturday July 8. Exciting details to follow, no doubt!
Over at Westacre, a reimagining of Private Lives, Noel Coward’s theatrical masterpiece, is being presented from March 10. Matt Grist directs, and this Sunday at 2.30pm, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, a ballet suitable for all the family, is being streamed from the Royal Opera House.
It may still be possible to book a lunch before the production. Contact: 01760 755 007, or visit: www.westacretheatre.com
King’s Lynn’s thirty-fourth Fiction Festival is only just a week away and includes a fine line-up of distinguished contributors from the literary world. Lynn’s historic Town Hall is the appropriate venue for the presentations, readings and discussions, which are held next Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Programmes are available locally or visit: lynnlitfests.com The Festival presents a varied and high quality programme.
The Diana Bullock Annual Memorial Lecture is also being presented this year at Lynn Town Hall and will be given by David Flintham, co-founder of KL Under Siege.
David’s subject is The Civil War fortifications of King’s Lynn. The date for your diary is Wednesday, March 22. Start time 7.30pm. The ticket price is £9 which includes a glass of wine. Call 01553 776632 or Lynn’s TIC on 01553 774297.

And so to music! A reminder the famous Bridge String Quartet will be performing works by Haydn, Holst, Arnold Cooke and Schubert at All Saints’ Church, Thornham, this Sunday at 4pm.
Tickets for the concert are available at Thornham Deli or Hunstanton’s Princess Theatre, on 01485 532252. Tickets are also available on the door, but regrettably cannot be purchased by card.
My book of the week is of great interest, as it charts the history of the decade after the Stuart monarch, Charles I was executed.
