In his weekly That’s Entertainment column, Andy Tyler looks at some exciting upcoming events…
The start of a New Year is often a good time to join a new club or take up a new challenge or hobby.
The Hunstanton Voices are looking for new members who love to sing and make music together. It also gives people the opportunity to make new friends in the New Year.
No audition is necessary and you don’t need singing experience, so, if interested why not contact Noelene on: 07709 986046 or email: noelenewd@yahoo.co.uk
The Hunstanton Voices will give a concert in the Summer entitled: ‘Around the World in 20 Songs’ details to follow.
The next Record Club session at Lynn Library will be held this coming Monday, starting at 5.30pm; The album to hear, enjoy, and discuss is Led Zeppelin IV (1971). Tea and coffee are available, all are welcome.
There are, of course, many events taking place at local libraries and you can certainly pick up a monthly leaflet at Lynn Library detailing what’s on there.
Details are also available on the library’s Facebook page or Twitter. You can also contact the Lynn Library on 01553 772568.
I noticed there’s a Big Book Sale being held at the library on Saturday, January 25, between 10am and 2.30pm. There will be some bargains to find, and rare local books, as well as numerous fiction and non-fiction tomes.
For those wanting to learn about how businesses succeed by serving the needs of their target customers, a special session will be held at Lynn Library given by Ben Wood and Tracee Findlater from Sun Spiral Innovation.
The session is free and will last approximately. Ninety minutes and there will be time for questions and answers. This informative presentation entitled: Spotlight Finding your customer must be booked via Eventbrite. To find out more visit: norfolk.gov.uk/bipcnorfolk
Ballet will be streamed from The Royal Opera House at Lynn Corn Exchange Cinema, and Swan Lake and Romeo and Juliet, two of the most popular, will come our way in February and March.
Offenbach’s well-known tales of Hoffmann will be streamed on Wednesday, January 15, starting at 6.45pm and a matinee on Sunday, January 19, starting at 2pm, also from The Royal Opera House. Tickets can be booked now contact: 01553 764864.
For Beatles fans, (I’m one), I noticed over at Westacre Theatre the local Band Dog House will perform from the Beatles album, A Hard Day’s Night and a selection of other songs from 1963-1970.
This Beatles 60th Anniversary Celebration Gig will go ahead on the evening of Saturday, February 15, between 7.30pm and 9.30pm. Tickets can be bought now. Visit: westacretheatre.com for details.
My book of the week recommendation this time is Agatha Christie An Autobiography.
Having visited Torquay, (her birthplace) recently, and with several TV documentaries currently being broadcast I think it would be interesting to read the famous author’s life story in her own words.
I would think the latest Robert Eggers movie Nosferatu, just released, may be the film of the week for you if you are into all things Dracula. Depends on how you like your horror, of course.
If you are attending a live event or indeed find yourself in a library, church or hospital, for example, do consider wearing a mask as it’s a peak time for infections, especially if you are in close proximity to people. It’s not mandatory, but do consider others.
I finish as I began with an idea for something new or different to start your New Year.
