Wereham staging its Open Gardens event with homemade cakes and afternoon teas

It’s the season to enjoy some beautiful blooms as villagers open their gardens.

On Sunday, June 15, Wereham is staging its Open Gardens event from noon to 5pm.

It will be the 21st event which is held in support of the village’s historic St Margaret’s Church.

Gardens are opening to the public this month.

As ever, the event has been organised by an enthusiastic group of gardeners and a warm welcome awaits visitors, who can enjoy spending time looking around a whole range of different gardens and pick up tips and ideas along the way.

Several gardens are new to the event this year, with some newly landscaped. Maps showing the location of all of the gardens opening will be available from the church in the heart of he village, on the day.

Tickets cost £6 for adults and are free for accompanied children.

Salad lunches, homemade cakes and afternoon teas will be available from midday in the village hall, with cash and card payments accepted. There will also be craft sales, a raffle and a tombola.

At Crown House in the centre of Wereham, there will be a stall selling plants, cuttings and other garden goodies.

New this year is the opportunity to purchase a refreshing glass of Pimm’s at Rotherfield House on The Row - one of the open gardens. If you have no cash but would like to indulge, you can purchase a Pimm’s ticket from the village hall.

All money raised from the open gardens will go towards maintaining Wereham’s beautiful Grade II-listed church, helping to ensure it can remain open and available for everyone now and in the future.
