The biggest cast ever assembled by Fakenham and District Light Operatic Society is well into rehearsals for its Christmas panto production of Aladdin and his Wonderful Lamp, which will run from December 2-6.

Over 50 members with ages ranging from primary school to senior citizen have been hard at work twice a week in the community centre under the keen eye of first-time director Alex Chidichimo.

The society reckons the success of its two most recent musicals, Oklahoma and Les Miserables, is the reason why so many newcomers have come forward to take part. Zachary Green has been cast as Aladdin and the Dame, Widow Twanky, is in the experienced hands of Ben Francis.

With major productions of Grease and Phantom of the Opera scheduled for 2015, the company will be holding workshop auditions on two Sundays in November.

And a reminder – Grease auditions will be held on Sunday, November 16, at 1-4pm, at Fakenham Community Centre, open to all aged 14 and above.

n Staying in Fakenham, there is a Festival of Remembrance at the Parish Church this evening from 7.30pm (tickets £7).

At Fakenham Community Centre tomorrow at 7.30pm, Jim Rymer Productions are presenting two one-act plays – Walking the Road and Sea Lavender. Tickets are £10, concs £8; call on 01328 855172 for more info.
