Gressenhall Farm and Workhouse holding series of pop-up poetry sessions and Halloween fun to entertain children over half-term

A farm and workhouse is bringing a week of action-packed activities for the school holidays to keep children occupied.

Gressenhall Farm and Workhouse has fun planned for the October half-term with two series of events, Found, a pop-up poetry trail, and Halloween-themed sessions.

Running everyday from 10am-5pm until Sunday, November 3, is the Found pop-up poetry trail which the price is included in the general admission.

From gingham fabric samples to homemade doll houses, and Valentine’s Day cards to Neolithic seed samples, Found creates an eclectic collection of objects, stories, and artistic responses that reflect the different ways people experience and love museums.

Found is a poetry and visual art project responding to objects on display at the Museum of Norwich, Gressenhall Farm and Workhouse, and Time and Time Museum of Great Yarmouth Life.

Since January, writer Daisy Henwood has been working with community groups and the general public to identify people’s favourite objects and bring their stories to life through poetry.

At Gressenhall, additional poems can be discovered as visitors explore the site.

Tickets can be booked online here.

From today until Sunday, November 3, the October half-term spooky events will be taking place which are suitable for families.

It will be running from 10am-4pm – the site will shut at 4pm from Sunday onwards.

People will be able to enjoy an autumn stamper trail, some cosy craft sessions, woodland fun and nature exploration as the season shifts.

Visitors can learn more about Norfolk folklore, spy a scarecrow or two on the trail across the site, and judge the annual Gressenhall pumpkin decorating competition too from October 29-31.

People can join in cosy crafts every day of October half-term at 11am-12noon and 2pm-3pm.

From October 29-31, find the resident Wise Woman in Cherry Tree Cottage for some weird remedies, strange tales and storytelling sessions, and head to Union Farm to learn more about historic lotions and potions used to heal animals.

Visitors can also enjoy a forest school-style fun special, Tree-rific Tuesday, from 1pm-3pm on Tuesday, October 29, or join Olive the Owl and friends for storytelling and gallery exploration for under-fives at 11am on Wednesday. Anyone attending in costume on Halloween will receive a treat.

Tickets can be booked online here.
