Community can enjoy live music, Morris dancing, and magic during VE Day street party on Windsor Road in King’s Lynn
A traditional street party has been arranged to celebrate the 80th anniversary of VE Day.
This free event for the community is being held on Windsor Road in Lynn this Sunday, starting at 12.30pm until 4.30pm with live music, Morris dancing, street magic and lots more.
The aim of the event is to bring the community together while honouring the memories of all those that sacrificed so much to bring peace to this country.
Joanne Russell, an organiser of the event, said: “In the past we have had more than 800 people come along when we did the Golden, Diamond and Platinum Jubilee celebrations for Queen Elizabeth, and also for the Coronation of King Charles.”
There will be a VIP table for those who were around at the actual VE Day, allowing them to bring along memorabilia and photos to share.
Joanne added: “One delightful lady, who is 94 years young, has some fantastic stories and photos.”
There will be goodie bags handed out to children in the shape of the box gas masks. They will also get a ‘ration’ book so they get a stamp for free goes on games.
Windsor Road will be closed and there will be tables and chairs for picnics.
The event is completely funded by donations from businesses and residents. All the work is done by unpaid volunteers, and any money raised from games and donations is shared between local charities.
