Hairy moment helps Tom get in character
When Tom Clarke of the King’s Lynn Players agreed to reprise a role in the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical Oklahoma! that he first played 18 years ago he realised that he was going to need a little help in the hair department.
Tom is playing Will Parker in the production at the Guildhall of St George in King’s Lynn Arts Centre, from November 14-17.
He headed to Boldero and Filby Hair and Beauty on St James Street where co-owner Terry Boldero restyled his wig and gave him a full head of hair again.
Tom said: “When the hair started to go I decided to shave it all off but when I do a show a wig helps me to get into character ... a big thank you to Terry for taking me back to my youth!”
Will Parker returns from Kansas City with $50, or at least goods to the value of and tries to reclaim Ado Annie who has been promised to him if he could get the cash.
He sings the crowd-pleaser Kansas City, and the duet All or Nothin, with Laura Farr, who plays Annie.
The show is set in the Western Indian Territory at the beginning of the 20th century.
It tells the tale of when farmgirl Laurey falls for cowboy Curley and is packed with iconic songs and show stopping dance numbers including The Farmer and The Cowman, Oh What a Beautiful Mornin, The Surrey with a Fringe on Top and It’s A Scandal.
Tom, who is also the Players’ publicity officer, said: “It’s great to be reprising my role in this show and I can’t believe I still remember the songs after all these years!
“The show is celebrating its 75th birthday this year and helps us kick off our own 75th Anniversary Season, too, which will include a production of Oliver!, in May 2019. It’s a great group to be a part of!”
Tickets for the show, priced at £15 each, are on sale now from Kings Lynn Corn Exchange box office on 01553 764864 or you can go online and visit the website www.kingslynn
