LEARN MOREThe Pocahontas Players' latest production, Our Finest Hour 1945 A Celebration of VE Day 2022, is finally happening on Friday and Saturday May 13-14, at Heacham Public Hall in Station Road.
This show was initially set to be put on in May 2020 to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the end of the Second World War in Europe but Covid had other ideas.
Scriptwriter Jim Race says the show is a light-hearted view of the events that occurred between 1939 to 1945, based around the local village pub and how these events affected Norfolk’s local community.
Additional scenes depicting the influx of evacuees, rationing and use of Land Army girls, written by Jan Curtis and Jeannie Tooley have been interspersed.
The production directed by Peter Everingham, along with musical direction from Jeannie Tooley, includes several wartime favourite songs and culminates in a rousing finale and opportunity for the audience to join in and proudly wave their Union flags provided.
Wardrobe-mistress Jan Curtis has worked extremely hard to put together authentic outfits from the period and along with the backdrops the audience are in for a visual treat as well. The audience will be sat at decorated tables of 8 to help give a ‘Street Party’ effect.
Commemorative programmes will also be available.
Tickets cost £10 and performances are at 7.30pm on Friday and at 2pm and 7.30pm on Saturday .
