Discover Downham' crafts for children plus Lynn & Ely Line rail exhibition to launch, “A Most Direct and Perfect Railway"
Discover Downham, based at The Old Fire Station at 30 Priory Road, has launched its spring season with a variety of talks, workshops, and the heritage group’s latest exhibition.
On Saturday, February 18, from 1.30pm-3.30pm, Sue Wilkinson will be running her popular Craft Time for Children session.
It is a good idea to pre-book a place which will cost £2/child. Please email info@discoverdownham.org.uk with name and age of child and a contact telephone number. All children to be accompanied by a responsible adult – and bring your own pritt stick.
The first tabletop sale of year will be on Sunday, March 19. If you are interested in having a table for bric-a-brac or crafts, please contact the centre. Cost for a table will be £6. Refreshments will be available.
And finally, Discover Downham’s next exhibition will launch on March 30, titled “A Most Direct and Perfect Railway: How the railway helped shape our town”.
These days we take the train for granted but Downham would have been a very different kind of place without the vision of the original investors in the Lynn & Ely Line which paved the way for Downham to become a station on a main route to London.
As the government considers ways to promote greener alternatives to car use in the light of climate change, the train is once more in the spotlight.
Check the website www.discoverdownham.org.uk for all their monthly activities, including a Family History regular meeting on the second Thursday of every month, quiz nights on the first Wednesday of the month at 7.30pm, coffee mornings, Songwriters and Poets (last Friday of the month), Dice & Decks board game cafe (last Sunday afternoon of the month), and a weekly art group which welcomes all abilities.
