That’s Entertainment: Andy Tyler discusses upcoming events in and around King’s Lynn, including ballet, rock show and entertainment
In his weekly That’s Entertainment column, Andy Tyler looks at some exciting upcoming events...
It’s always a pleasure experiencing dance performance of all types and learning about their history, as well as a little about the moves and techniques employed by the participants.
I had the opportunity recently to attend an evening of Indian classical dance presented by The Taal Rasa Bhava Dance Academy at Lynn’s Guildhall.
Three talented young dancers Pooja Rai, Emily Biju and Riva Chauhan, in an Arangetram, or graduation performance presented by Guru Sangeeta De, principal and leader of the studio, gave stunning dance sequences both solo and together.
The music, lyrics, and dance moves come from India’s long classical traditions and the dancers brought the ancient tales to life through the varied sequences.
Thanks to all concerned, including the compères Anoushka Chandrasekar, Dillany JeyaKumar and Anushka Bakka for an entertaining and enlightening evening, including parents who happily support their children’s involvement.
Classic examples of European ballet will be streamed from The Royal Opera House this autumn and winter. Lynn’s Alive Corn Exchange cinema will give showings of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Cinderella mid-October and December respectively. Reminders to follow!
There is always plenty of variety in the entertainment taking place in West Norfolk and The Circus of Wonders has recently arrived at The Rising Lodge Farm Shop, Grimston Road, PE30 3HQ.
Performances finish on Sunday, September 29. Unreserved seats are available at every show, the Big Top is climatised and a nearby car park is available.
There is an information line available on 07719877422, and the box office is open between 10am and 8pm daily. Why not roll up?
In 1978, The King’s Lynn/Emmerich Twinning Club was formed in order to encourage social, cultural, and sporting exchanges between the two towns.
Over the forty-plus years those exchanges have taken place, friendships formed and members have enjoyed visiting their friends either in Lynn or in Emmerich.
The club over in Germany has decided to close for practical reasons, and it has now been decided to close the King’s Lynn club also. Members attended a social evening recently and formally closed the Lynn club.
The recently relaunched Hanse Club of King’s Lynn is continuing to strengthen contacts and its relationship with other Hanseatic towns in Europe and holds social events locally, so for those interested in possibly joining the club do contact me on 07803459043.
With the new season comes new events organised by the local WEA. I noticed a course will be held at The Friends Meeting House on Saturday, October 19 between 10:30am and 4:30pm.
The subject is West Norfolk’s wonderful peatlands. Why not go along, enjoy the course, and learn more about the WEA? For all the details contact 01553 761890.
My movie of the week is Francis Ford Coppola’s Megalopolis, due to be released only in cinemas on September 27. This potentially classic movie is described as a Roman epic fable set in an imagined modern America. Sounds intriguing, to say the least!
Now the evenings are getting darker a good read is essential; this week I recommend Robert Harris’s new novel ‘Precipice’, a thriller including romance, political intrigue, crime, and scandal, set at the outset of the First World War. A real page-turner!
As always there’s no shortage of special events at your local library. Lullaby Circle with Xenia Horne is a free session for parents and carers with early years children.
Why not stay and play on Monday, October 7, between 11am and 12pm, at Lynn’s library on London Road?
If you’re over in Hunstanton this weekend The Stadium Rock Show is presented tomorrow night at 7:30pm and The Stars of Irish Country Show perform Sunday night also from 7:30pm.
Visit: princesshunstanton.co.uk for details. What’s not to like?
Lastly, a word of warning! Dracula is visiting Lynn’s Guildhall thanks to the King’s Lynn Operatic and Dramatic Society at the end of October. Further warnings to follow!
