Interactive exhibition by Stoke Ferry and District History Group set to remember Lynn Road at All Saints Academy

A lively interactive, immersive history exhibition is set to open to the public - with the chance for guests to share their memories too.

The Community Rooms at All Saints Academy in Stoke Ferry will be hosting a ‘Remembering Lynn Road’ exhibition on Saturday, March 22 from 11am-3pm.

The exhibition will allow people to walk through time in the recreated Lynn Road and discover and interact with old photos, videos, maps and adverts of more than 20 buildings and businesses from Bonnetts Ironmongers and Forge to professional artists and artisans, and petrol stations and coal yards to the 250-year-old Blue Bell Public House.

Jim McNeill, chair of the Stoke Ferry and District History Group, said: “The history group members are delighted to be putting on this important display showing the dynamic history of Lynn Road which was and remains a flourishing commercial centre in our village.

“We are all looking forward to hearing and recording local people’s ‘living memories’ of shopping, working, creating, living and partying in the heart of our vibrant village.

“I also think that those new to the village will be surprised at the rich history and stories of each building along the road.

“So, we will be asking, ‘Did you work for the coal merchants Darkins and Sons?’, ‘Do you remember shopping at Morley’s or at Self’s butchers?’, ‘Did you or your family live on Lynn Road?’ and ‘Do you have old photos you’d like to share?”

Group members will be in the school’s community centre to see and copy photos and documents, and record personal stories, memories and recollections. Visitors can also add comments and additional information directly onto the display.
