Arts Society King’s Lynn continues new season with talk by lecturer James Vaux at West Winch Village Hall
The Arts Society King’s Lynn continues the season with a talk from a researcher and lecturer specialising in Nordic arts, culture, design, and history.
The society welcomes James Vaux for a talk focusing on understanding artistic achievements through their historical, cultural, and political context, on Thursday, November 13, at West Winch Village Hall.
He aims to question the underlying narratives behind artists, designers, and movements.
This talk explores 1,500 years of Norse mythology in fine art, applied arts, and literature, including Viking-age artefacts, Icelandic texts, English paintings by Fuseli and Blake, and 19th-century Scandinavian works of national romanticism and modern interpretations ranging from Hilma af Klint to Anselm Kiefer.
As it is the start of the festive season, people will also look at what contribution the Vikings made to Christmas traditions.
The lecture will start at 2.30pm and costs £10 for non-members.
