It’s a ballroom blitz as homecoming planned in King's Lynn
A mega day of rock music is being planned for the new year in Lynn with a Twisted Melon promotion.
The Extons will be headlining in the event at the Dukes Head Ballroom on February 22.
Twisted Melon’s promoter Triston Finnis told the Lynn News what was behind the day that will see 11 acts perform for just £10 – less than a pound an act.
He said: “The King’s Lynn music scene has been struggling for a while.
“The very few pub venues still booking acts tend to stick to cover bands … and for me there’s only so many times I can hear Sex On Fire or Mr Brightside before pulling my hair out.
“There is virtually nowhere for original acts to perform, meaning less and less acts get any further than jamming in their spare rooms and garages.
“The only real option is to book a room and DIY an event.
“Steve Pitcher and Rob Bunting, formerly of punk band Vanilla Pod, have resurrected their Poets On Payday shows utilising the back room at The Maltings.
“These are amazing shows which have given the local punk scene a new buzz.
“I’ve decided to take the indie/rock scene by the scruff of the neck.
“Week in week out on my KL.FM Loaded radio show I read local gig listings where amazing West Norfolk acts are performing venues in Norwich, Cambridge and Peterborough … and I’ve had enough.
“These acts should be playing King’s Lynn.
“The likes of The Extons, Tom Lumley & The Brave Liaison, Sarpa Salpa, Dead Reynolds and Among The Citizens are receiving plays on the likes of Radio 1, Radio X and Kerrang yet the people of Lynn don’t get to see them unless they travel.
“So on February 22 at the Dukes Head, the ballroom will be transformed into a gig venue with staging and pro PA and lighting rig.
“An amazing line up of 11 acts will perform including a showcase act from both BBC Introducing Norfolk and BBC Introducing Cambs.”
The line up is The Extons, Tom Lumley & The Brave Liaison, Sarpa Salpa, The Barratts, Dead Reynolds, Among The Citizens, Vigilantes, BBC Cambs act FES, BBC Norfolk act Telling Truths, Sleemo and Kingdom Keys.
The event is being put on in association with the Purfleet Trust with donations going to them and also the King’s Lynn Night Shelter.
Doors are at 1pm and tickets can be purchased from www.twistedmelon.bigcartel.com for £10.
