King’s Lynn Players actor Tom Clarke reaches 20th production with Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Sunset Boulevard The Musical
Roydon actor Tom Clarke will be celebrating his 20th production with The King’s Lynn Players when he steps on the stage next month for what could be described as the role of a lifetime for an amateur actor.
Tom plays Joe Gillis in the Players' long awaited production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Sunset Boulevard The Musical, being staged from May 18 to 21 at The Guildhall of St George, Lynn.
Sharon Fox, director said: “I can remember Tom contacting me when he was 16 to enquire about a role in Seven Brides for Seven Brothers.
"New to the society, he made an instant impression and he hasn’t looked back since, playing some very iconic musical roles including Mr Snow in Carousel, Will Parker in Oklahoma, Tony in Copacabana, Daryl Van Horne in The Witches of Eastwick, The Man in Whistle Down The Wind and Gomez in The Addams Family.”
Sharon added: “Tom brings a wealth of experience to the role of Joe, alongside an abundance of passion for musical theatre. I can’t wait for audiences to see him perform again. They will be in for a real treat.”
Tom added “Joining The King's Lynn Players was a life changer for me and it led to me moving to King's Lynn and I haven’t looked back! To have been given the opportunity to play such a variety of roles has been a real privilege and I hope audiences will be gripped by Sunset Boulevard in the way I have been.”
Sunset Boulevard revolves around the former star of the silent screen era, Norma Desmond who lives in her dilapidated Hollywood mansion with her butler and chauffeur Max. Lost in her memories, she is stirred into action when struggling screenwriter, Joe Gillis, enters her home.
Featuring showstoppers ‘With One Look’, ‘The Perfect Year’ and the title track ‘Sunset Boulevard’ this is one of Lloyd Webber’s best scores and is a first for West Norfolk.
