That’s Entertainment: Andy Tyler discusses upcoming events in and around King’s Lynn, including Mart, theatre productions and tribute acts including Take That

In his weekly That’s Entertainment column, Andy Tyler looks at some exciting upcoming events…

It is great to have the Lynn Mart open again this year, enabling us to enjoy all the fun of the fair, especially on these difficult days.

It was also a pleasure to see the Mart featured on ITV’s Anglia East News, some familiar faces appearing and the historic 100-year-old steam engine being on display.

A reminder that the Mart’s final day is tomorrow, and it’s open from noon. Thanks to local Mart official ‘Nipper’ Appleton and all who work at, and support this popular, historic and traditional event.

We are lucky in West Norfolk to also have two great festivals, don’t forget The Lynn Festival Spring Events, taking place currently, and of course, Festival Too, which will commence from June 28 this year.

Over at Westacre, there is the opportunity tomorrow to see a production of Saba’s Swim given by Westacre’s Youth Theatre, definitely something to support, the performance starts at 7pm and tickets may still be available.

Also at Westacre a six-week Beginners Creative Writing Course starts from February 28. If you wish to develop your writing skills, here is the opportunity.

The course is led by Norfolk-based writer Camilla Balshaw. For all the exciting events and entertainment presented at Westacre Theatre, pick up a copy of their latest brochure or visit: www.westacretheatre.com

Hunstanton’s Princess Theatre always has something to cheer or amuse us and over the next few days, the situation does not change.

If you are a fan of guitar music, The Story of Guitar Heroes should provide a great night’s entertainment tomorrow night starting from 7.30pm, with plenty of nostalgic moments. Su Pollard, who apparently, is Still Fully Charged should amuse us on Sunday from 7.30pm.

On Friday, February 28, Malcolm Pitt and some stellar world-class musicians, including musical director Jonny Miller from Talon, will present the music of Lionel Richie, also from 7.30pm.

Tickets may still be left for the exciting Take That Experience at Lynn’s Alive Corn Exchange tomorrow at 7.30pm and on Sunday you can experience some Rude Science, explosive entertainment for all the family, apparently. Blame Stefan Gates for the extreme experiments, shows are at 11.30am and 3pm.

Mid-March sees the next Lynn Players production, which is The Curious Incident of the Dog in The Night-Time, a show based on the famous novel by Mark Haddon.

The show will be performed at Springwood High School. Tickets and information are available by calling 01553 764864 or visiting the Lynn’s Alive Corn Exchange box office.

For ballet fans, Tchaikovsky’s masterpiece Swan Lake will be streamed from The Royal Opera House on Thursday, February 27, and should be available to view at selected cinemas.

My heritage railway suggestion this week is a visit to The Bure Valley Railway, where there is plenty to see, learn and enjoy. Visit: bvrw.co.uk for details of what’s on offer along the line.

I am pleased to see several films I have recommended in the column have been awarded at The BAFTAS, including, Conclave, The Brutalist, and my movie recommendation for this week, winner of best animated film and children's and family film Wallace and Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl – very suitable for half-term week.

If you are not familiar with Rebecca Yarros’s ‘Empyrean’ series of novels you might give them a try, her latest: Onyx Storm is creating a storm in the bestseller lists currently.

Lastly, for interesting talks, as always, do see what the latest item of interest is being presented by The Lynn Society of Arts and Sciences.

The next talk will be given by Prof Patricia Fara and her subject is JMW Turner’s Rain, Steam and Speed, the date for your diary, is next Tuesday, February 25. The Small Barn of Knights Hill Hotel, South Wootton, is the venue. For more details visit: klsas.uk
