Learn basic mending techniques to help your clothes last at Gressenhall Farm and Workhouse workshop

A workhouse museum is hosting a sewing session for people to learn some basic techniques.

Gressenhall Farm and Workhouse is putting on a visible mending workshop with Roberta Cummings on Thursday, January 30 from 10.30am-3pm.

In this cosy and mindful practical workshop, visitors will learn some basic visible mending techniques to extend the life of their clothing and other textiles in use in their day-to-day lives.

The workshop will explore darning and patching holes, tears and worn areas on both knitted and woven fabrics. Participants will use a variety of embroidery techniques across a variety of fabric types.

Darning looms and hand crank sewing machines will also be available to use.

Beginners are welcome. No prior sewing experience is necessary to join in with this workshop – knowledge of knitting may be helpful but is not essential.

People wishing to take part will need to take a garment or textile they would like to mend and a picnic lunch, as the café and the rest of the site remain closed over the winter.
