This Sunday, from 5pm at the Maids Head, in Lynn, it’s the final heat of Twisted Melon Promotions’ Simply Acoustic 2015.
In this third round the performers are Sacred Nations, Breaking Sirens, Chris Pidgeon, Sally, Adamm ’n’ Kirk and Emily Blake, with two acts progressing to next week’s final.
Triston Finnis, of Twisted Melon, said: “Those two acts going through will join Falling From Trees, Simon Benefer, Pirate Joe and Phoebe York again at the Maids Head from 4pm on Sunday, November 8.
“The winning act receives recording time from Capsize Audio Productions and a photoshoot from West Norfolk Photography, while the top two acts win the right to perform in front of 5,000 people at the King’s Lynn Christmas Light Switch On.”
Last Sunday’s second round saw Phoebe York and Pirate Joe winning through.
Here’s Triston’s preview of the five acts this weekend:
Sacred Nations are a new four-piece act created from the embers of Fazed. For this competition they will be resting guitarist Dylan and performing as an acoustic trio with Cameron on guitar/lead vocal, Edward on piano and Frazer on percussion/vocal. The lads perform their own material as well as their own unique take on some popular covers.
Breaking Sirens are King’s Lynn gents Mark Baldwin and Tim Dennis. They are a melodic punk/acoustic band hugely influenced by the Chicago/Philly punk scene. Their influences include Alkaline Trio, Black Flag and Neck Deep. Mark and Tim are well known within the Norfolk music scene performing with a number of bands including the original full band incarnation of Breaking Sirens.
Chris is a Norwich-based singer songwriter. He performs an original set of storytelling folk/rock songs with his very distinctive style. Chris has performed a number of local festivals and has also supported many chart acts at the Norwich Waterfront including Festival Too favourites Heaven 17, Jah Wobble and Ben Ottewell, of Gomez.
Sally, Adamm & Kirk
Local singer songwriter Sally Ann Pottle was a finalist in last year’s competition and is hoping to go one better in 2015 and has drafted in friends Adamm Whitby on guitar/vocal and Kirk Heathfield on percussion.
Sally performs her own material in her distinctive quirky style as well as some popular covers with Adamm and Kirk adding depth to her already great sound.
Emily is woman of many talents who just loves to sing and act. She is also a presenter and plus size model, famously winning Miss British Beauty Curve 2014.
For the competition, Emily will be throwing away the backing track and stripping things back to her strong vocal and an acoustic guitar.
