King’s Lynn Baden Powell historic cockling boat back for summer sailing at South Quay
Lynn’s historic cockling boat is all aboard for the summer on the South Quay pontoons where you can book to sail in her.
Baden Powell spent the winter in the yard of Travis Perkins in Lynn Docks, where Associated British Ports lifted her out of the water for maintenance work and a lick of paint.
Thanks are given to both companies for keeping the Baden Powell safe.
In the first week back in the water, Tim Clayton, Chris Ward and other volunteers with the King’s Lynn Worfolk Boat Trust, the charity that brought the 1900-built Baden Powell back to sailing condition over a decade, will be re-installing sails and ensuring all is ship-shape for this year’s sailings in the river and out to The Wash.
To sail in her this summer, see the website www.floatourboat.co.uk.
There you can find out when volunteer skippers and crew will be ready to take up to seven passengers down the River Great Ouse so they can get a new view of the town and its place in this historic eastern coastal area.
Given good weather and a convenient high tide, you’ll see some fascinating birdlife, catch sight of the local seals, and learn about the importance of Lynn as a centre for fishing, trading and exploration over the past thousand years.
Organisers said: "We look forward to welcoming new passengers aboard."
