King’s Lynn Community Cinema Club screening of Thelma at Majestic Cinema and hosting day school event on women in film at Friends’ Meeting House

A cinema club will be welcoming film lovers back for another one of its screenings showing a comedy and action movie as well as a day school event.

Next Thursday, King’s Lynn Community Cinema Club will be back for another great movie at its new home – screen 2 of the Majestic Cinema – at 7.30pm.

Being shown is the 15-rated, 2024 American film Thelma. It is about a 93-year-old woman being duped by a phone scammer pretending to be her grandson, and her treacherous quest across Los Angeles to reclaim what was taken from her.

The writer/director Josh Margolin took inspiration from when his own grandmother 103 years was almost scammed. The film’s main star June Squibb was the same age as the main character and it was her first starring role.

It was the last film of the actor Richard Roundtree who was best known for playing Shaft in films of the same name.

The bar will be open from 7pm for a pre-screening drink.

Entry for members is free, but, as with any KLCCC films, those over 18 years old are welcome to go along and can pay £5 cash at the door.

Also, the community cinema club - in partnership with the Workers’ Education Association - will be holding a day school on The Women Who Built the Film Industry at the Friends’ Meeting House on Saturday, March 22.

Starting at 10.30am and costing £30, the tutor is Christopher Budd, who is well known to the club for regularly presenting at the ‘Evening With’ events. For more information, contact 01553 761890.
