Bob Betts is the new musical director of Lynn Town Band, succeeding Steve Ingham who had conducted the band for several years
The change comes as the band prepares for this year’s series of summer concerts.
Mr Betts, from Tydd St Giles, was a member of the Royal Artillery Band for 20 years, he has conducted bands in London and had a spell of ten years conducting March Brass Band before he had to move on because of work commitments.
A self-employed transport manager, Mr Betts said: “My son Andrew plays cornet in the Lynn band and another son, Oliver, is working his way to becoming a member as well.
“We are looking forward to our summer concerts and my message to the band is quite simple: ‘Let’s make music and enjoy it’.”
Mr Ingham will maintain his connection with the band, as principal cornet player.
The band was formed back in 1894 and throughout the 20th century it won many awards and titles.
New members are always welcome and for details call the bandmaster Philip Mole on 01553 828253; any bookings for the band should be made with the secretary Sue Hotson on 01945 772700.
Lynn Town Band’s first summer concert will be at 2.30pm on Sunday, May 17, at Ely’s Jubilee Gardens; there are also bookings at Walpole St Peter Church flower festival, Lynn Walks, Hunstanton Green and Sandringham Visitor Centre.
