New sketch of King's Lynn's St George's Guildhall to be auctioned in fundraiser
Jon Harris, the well-known Cambridge artist and academic, has been commissioned to produce a new colour sketch of St George’s Guildhall.
The completed work will be auctioned to raise funds for Shakespeare’s Guildhall Trust on Tuesday, at a sell-out event in celebration of the Bard’s birthday and St George’s Day, at the Riverside Restaurant, Lynn.
Because the event has sold out, the Trust has agreed to allow sealed bids to be sent in beforehand in order to let as many people as possible have the chance to own this unique memento.
Jon successfully exhibited at last year’s King’s Lynn Festival, alongside Walter Dexter in ‘Lynn from all Angles’. After spending time in Lynn to create the pieces for the exhibition, Jon was so taken with Lynn that, after living in Cambridge for more than 50 years, he moved to the town last September!
Chair of Shakespeare’s Guildhall Trust, Ivor Rowlands, said: “We received a really generous offer, just a few days ago, from a benevolent supporter who has commissioned the work and donated it to the Trust. Jon started work straight away and is hoping to have it finished in time for the birthday event. The finished work will measure approximately 16” x 12”. All tickets for the birthday celebration have sold out, but we wanted to give as many people as possible the chance to bid for this new work.”
Anyone can email a bid to firstname.lastname@example.org before midday on Tuesday.
Tickets are still available for the Trust’s second fundraising event at the Guildhall, a music night with Tim FitzHigham, Ella McCready and Eddie Seales with Springwood Big Band.
Tickets are on sale now from the Corn Exchange box office and are only £11 for adults, £10 for concessions.
