Nightmare on Priory Road, Downham Market

By Eve Tawfick

Downham is gearing up for Halloween with it’s annual horror festival, which is spookier than ever before.

Residents can enjoy a series of eccentric events that celebrate all things horror, as part of the 2019 Fear in The Fens Festival.

The three day event will show the best of local film and writing talent.

On October 18, at The Priory Centre, there will be an evening of “all things witchy” at a creative writing workshop and open mic event.

The evening will be jam-packed with supernatural poetry and prose, and a reading from Norwich writer Ed Parnell from his new novel ‘Ghostland’.

CULTure Babylon, who claim to ‘put the cult in culture’ will be hosting several magical workshops at the priory.

The workshops all take place on Wednesday September 18, at 10-12.30pm and 2-4pm with entrance costing £12.

The workshops will be held by Sue Burge, a North Norfolk based poet, who writes on ‘dark, gothic themes’

Sue will share her expertise with locals, centred around the festival’s theme ‘All Of Them Witches’ where she will use innovative exercises to produce fresh prose.

Participants are encouraged to polish their pieces and send them to Sue as soon as possible for potential inclusion in the open mic night.
