Performers will be taking to the stage and raising funds to support those living with dementia.

Watlington Players' next production will be held in conjunction with Downham Dementia Café and people are being urged to come along and enjoy the show while helping a good cause at the same time.

The award-winning players will be staging a one-off Musical Matinee on Saturday, May 31 at Downham Market Methodist Chapel. The special performance will include musical hits from favourite shows such as Oliver, Oklahoma, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Chess, Cabaret and many many more.

The dementia café is a charitable organisation founded in 2021 to help those with dementia and their carers to live better lives through safe and supportive friendship.

Five cafés are held each month, three in the morning and two in the afternoon. All the cafés are held at the Methodist church in Paradise Road.

Those attending enjoy taking part in games, craft activities, visits from therapists and other guests.

There are outings and meals are held to celebrate Christmas and the café’s birthday which falls in October.

The café’s also offers the opportunity to find out more about what practical and emotional support and advice is available.

A spokesperson for the players said: “Our group is all about community and getting people together. We’re very aware of how dementia can affect not only the person with the illness but also those around them.

“We know that if the café can offer respite for an hour or two a week it can be a huge weight lifted and it’s something we feel is definitely worth fundraising for.”
