Pantomime going ahead at Hunstanton this year

Hunstanton’s Princess Theatre will be one of the few theatres across the country staging a panto this Christmas.

Mother Goose will be on from Saturday, December 19 until New Year’s Day.

The Tom Rolfe Productions show will have a five-person cast and last for 90 minutes with no interval.

The Princess Theatre has been trialling concerts over the past few weeks with socially-distanced audiences wearing face masks.

Brian Hallard, the theatre’s proprietor, said: “I have been planning this for the past five or six weeks now. We run some tests with some social distanced shows on Saturdays and they have worked really well, so I’ve put together another nine for October and November and this panto.

“If theatres are going to sit on their hands till the end of next March then this industry is going to die. Hunstanton can’t allow the Princess Theatre to close down. It is the heart of the town.”

Tickets can be bought online.

Mr Hallard said that many people had asked to donate to the theatre rather than take refunds for cancelled shows and that yesterday a donation of £250 was made to its support fund.

Mervyn Francis, the theatre’s resident panto dame for the past few years, is returning for what he says is his favourite pantomime.

Hannah Kiss who played Alice Fitzwarren in last year’s Dick Whittington and Lynn and Lee Caroll (Sweet & Simple) who were also in the 2019 panto are also returning.

Tickets are £15 for adults, £12.50 children, concessions £12.50 and a family of three £40 and family of four £50.

In groups of 10, one goes free (but you must stay in social bubbles).

There is a children’s group price for 10 or more excluding Christmas Eve and Boxing Day shows.
