King’s Lynn Festival Coffee Concert performance by pianist Rokas Valuntoni was ‘passionate’ and ‘enthusiastically received by audience’

Reviewer Andy Tyler shares his thoughts on a recent King’s Lynn’s Festival Coffee Concert…

A packed Lynn Town Hall was the venue for the recent King’s Lynn Festival Coffee Concert featuring young virtuoso pianist Rokas Valuntonis.

The recital consisted of Beethoven’s ‘Pathetique’ sonata, Op.13, Chopin’s Four Mazurkas, Op.33, and a favourite piece of mine, Schumann’s Carnival, Op.9.

The performances, enthusiastically received by the audience, were passionate, and lyrical when appropriate, and Rokas’s virtuosity and technique mastered the pieces’ technical demands with ease.

The audience was treated to a thrilling encore: an arrangement of Mozart’s Turkish Rondo by Russian-born French pianist, Arcadi Volodos.

Rokas has performed widely in Europe and is a laureate of more than 20 international competitions. He has also collaborated with both actors and presenters.

His most recent collaboration with celebrated Lithuanian actor Kostas Smoriginas explored the characters and emotional lives of great composers like Beethoven, Chopin and Rachmaninov.

We look forward to hearing from Rokas in future exciting recitals! The next Lynn Festival Coffee Concert is held on Friday, March 28, to be given by Benjamin Baker and Daniel Lebhardt, at Lynn Town Hall.
