West Norfolk Gilbert and Sullivan Society bringing The Mikado to King’s Lynn’s Guildhall stage for ‘fun-filled, riotous occasion’
A performing arts group is returning to the stage for its latest production.
Three Little Maids are well on their train journey to Titipu railway station to meet The Mikado as West Norfolk Gilbert and Sullivan Society presents ‘The Mikado’ at Lynn’s Guildhall from February 6-8 for a “fun-filled, riotous occasion”.
The romance between Yum-Yum and Nanki-Poo does not, of course, run smoothly.
The imperious Mikado and his scary ‘daughter-in-law elect’ Katisha, searching for his truant son and her fiance, who is in fact Nanki-Poo in the disguise of an itinerant trombone player who has escaped from his father’s court and his frightening fiancée.
The usual Gilbert and Sullivan chaos ensues ably directed by Sharon Cutworth in this up-to-date production.
On board are Anil Chakrabarti, Andy Hiles, Julie Bjerregaard and James Bowman, locally well-known faces at the drama group, along with a trainload of schoolgirls and Japanese businessmen.
Rachel Mycock has been bringing the musical side of the show up to scratch.
The society will be supporting four charities with bucket collections at their performances. The charities are:
- Purfleet Trust on Thursday evening
- Tapping House on Friday evening
- MS Society on Saturday afternoon
- Magpie Riding for the Disabled on Saturday evening
Tickets can be purchased from 01553 764864 or the Alive Corn Exchange website https://www.kingslynncornexchange.co.uk/.
There is a reduced price of £10 on the first day of the show.
West Norfolk Gilbert and Sullivan Society has thanked Lynn railway station for allowing a photoshoot in their atmospheric premises, and for the support of the Borough Council in the form of a Borough Councillor Community Grant.
