Downham Market Discover Downham project Create and Thrive awarded funds from Norfolk Community Foundation through West Norfolk Lives Fund to host creative workshops for adults and children

Discover Downham’s project, Create and Thrive, has been awarded £4,250 to host a variety of creative workshops in Downham Market during the coming year.

The project was awarded funding from Norfolk Community Foundation through the West Norfolk Lives Fund for adults and children to learn new skills, meet new people and improve well-being.

Entirely run by volunteers , the museum runs a variety of fund raising events such as quiz nights, coffee mornings, tabletops, talks and also hires out space to community groups at affordable prices.

Marion Batt, trustee, said: "Discover Downham runs many events for the local community each year and this fantastic grant means we can hold a broader range of workshops for more age groups.

"Creativity, Learning and Making, focusses the mind and to leave a workshop with something tangible gives a great lift to your well-being."

The centre pays rent and has a full repairing lease, but strives to be self supporting through the range of fundraising events that are held, particularly now when costs are increasing rapidly.

This grant will enable the centre to produce a series of workshops throughout the year which might otherwise not have been possible and details of workshops will be published soon.

Claire Cullens, chief executive of Norfolk Community Foundation, said: "Norfolk Community Foundation is delighted to support this much needed project that will make a real difference in the community.

"We wish them every success with their work."
