It’s always a pleasure to enjoy fine music making given by young gifted musicians, as was the case at the King’s Lynn Music Society’s recent recital given by Emily Trubshaw, violin and Ellis Thomas, piano.

Both musicians are studying music at Cambridge University and having lessons at the Royal Academy of Music.

They have already gained much experience from their studies, and I’m sure have distinguished careers ahead of them in the musical world.

Their varied programme included works by Bach, Beethoven, Brahms , Chopin, Debussy and Rachmaninov also less well known pieces by Bacewicz, ( a dazzling Polish Caprice), and Wieniawski, (a Faust Fantasy, technically demanding, including musical fireworks from Gounod’s Opera Faust)!

The works by Brahms and Wieniawski were played as a duo by both musicians, the ones by Bach, Beethoven, and the three superb etudes by Chopin, Debussy and Rachmaninov, by pianist alone, and the Bacewicz piece was for violin solo.

All in all the excellent performers gave fresh, enthusiastic and technically accomplished interpretations of the compositions on the programme.

We look forward to hearing more from them in the future. Thanks to Tim Watts for his assistance with the recital, and a date for your diary is Wednesday, May 18, when Estevao Devides gives a classical guitar recital including some popular favourites. Doors open at Lynn’s Town Hall from 6.45pm, (coffee and tea is available), AGM for members, 7pm, and the recital starts at 7.30pm.

Andy Tyler.
