REVIEW: Stirring performance of Macbeth in beautiful settings

With the stunning backdrop of St Nicholas' Chapel, an exceptional performance of Macbeth was performed in King's Lynn yesterday evening.

The unique setting enabled a This is my Theatre cast to recreate William Shakespeare's play at close quarters for the enjoyment of those sat in the pews.

This is my Theatre is a Sussex-based company who tour all over the country, often performing in unorthodox locations, whether that may be gardens, churches or theatre spaces.

Ethan Taylor perfectly illustrated the inner turmoil as Macbeth, ridden with lust for power to become king, yet also consumed with guilt and paranoia as the narrative goes on.

Alongside Ethan, Eleanor Toms played Lady Macbeth with passion. Eleanor brought to life the transition of Lady Macbeth from bold and daring partner in crime to a hysterical and lonely figure by the end.

Andy Colter, Simon Stallard and Matt Tweddle made up the rest of the cast, and their haunting celtic singing throughout the play added a nice touch to proceedings. The three of them excelled as the three witches as well as other notable roles such as Macduff (played by Simon) and Duncan (played by Matt).

All lines were immaculately retold including Macbeth's famous 'Tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow' soliloquy by Ethan at the end.

Limited props and cast members did not prove to be a problem as the acting was of the highest quality, resulting in a standing ovation in the church.
