Seven choirs will come together to perform for a charity fundraising ‘Summer Showcase’ on Friday at 7.30pm at the Queen Mary Centre in Wisbech.
From Wisbech, Hunstanton, Lynn, Fakenham and Downham, all 120 are members of the West Norfolk Rock Choir and they perform fun, uplifting, contemporary songs, from the Rock Choir repertoire conducted by the choir leader, Mike Tandy.
He said: “Rock Choir is very different to the more traditional choirs and choral societies.
“We sing our own, special arrangements of feel-good chart and pop songs.”
This is the first time that the whole of the West Norfolk Choir have come together to perform their own showcase event in Wisbech.
Nearly every week the choir is ‘on the road’ invited to perform at a wide range of charity events both in the local region and further afield.
During the year the choir performed on stage at Lynn Corn Exchange with Russell Watson and Tenors Un Limited as well as at Wembley and the NEC.
Rock Choir are holding this concert to raise funds for the Wisbech Committee for Children’s Charities and Jayne Walpole said: “The charity was established over 100 years ago and holds several fundraising events during the year to raise money for a variety of projects aimed at improving lives of children, from five-19 years from Wisbech and surrounding area.”
Kate Holmes, a member of the Wisbech choir, said: “It’s amazing to be a part of the choir, especially when all the groups come together and there are over a 120 people performing together, the sound and harmonies are so powerful, it takes your breath away.”
The show has something for everyone and some of the songs that the choir will be performing include Proud, Something Inside So Strong, Livin on a prayer and Rather Be.
Tickets are £5 and can be purchased in advance by contacting Jayne Walpole on 07584 341160, limited tickets will also be available on the door; refreshments will be available from 6.30pm.
