That’s Entertainment: Andy Tyler discusses upcoming events in and around King’s Lynn, including ski racing, Festival Too, and train rides

In his weekly That’s Entertainment column, Andy Tyler looks at some exciting upcoming events...

I make no apologies for starting the column this week with matters Hanseatic.

Firstly, a reminder, from this afternoon, True’s Yard Fisherfolk Museum will have a fascinating Hanse Exhibition displayed, no doubt highlighting Lynn’s connection with the Hanseatic League, the medieval commercial and defensive network of merchant guilds and market towns in Central and Northern Europe.

Lynn is, of course, an important and enthusiastic member of the New Hanseatic League, formed in 2018.

Next weekend, June 14 and 15, is Lynn’s Hanseatic Festival Weekend, when many exciting activities and events take place, celebrating Lynn’s membership of The New Hanseatic League.

A special leaflet, including a map and list of the Hanseatic events covering both days, is now available locally, and those interested can visit: kingslynnhansefestival.co.uk for details and timetable. Here’s to The Hanse in Lynn.

Lynn is rightly described as a Festival Town, and Lynn Festival and Festival Too are held between July 13-26 and June 28-July 12, respectively.

Both Festivals have now made public their programmes and I notice Festival Too is celebrating 40 years of existence! Do visit both festivals’ websites for further information, whatever your tastes, there’s something for everyone!

The Hanseatic Ski Race, taking place on Lynn’s waterfront, is held June 21-22 and is sure to pull the crowds. Certainly not to be missed this summer.

Don’t forget there are also good reasons to visit The Walks over the next few weekends. Fun days and live music will be held, and free summer concerts are performed in the Bandstand on Sundays between 2-4pm now, and through until September.

More outdoor entertainment this time over in Westacre. One is encouraged to grab a picnic and enjoy a great afternoon out set against the backdrop of Westacre Theatre’s superb lake and natural gardens. Visit: westacretheatre.com for details.

Also visit Westacre’s Website for details of its youth theatre, classes, activities, and workshops, which start now.

For those relaxed times with a good book, I recommend this week the latest thriller from The Reverend Richard Coles entitled: A Death On Location. It’s another murder for Canon Daniel Clement to solve and this bestseller has just been published, so with The Reverend’s latest offering and Stephen King’s last week, there’s plenty to delve into!

Based on the bestselling memoir by Raynor Winn, my movie recommendation of the week is The Salt Path, starring Gillian Anderson and Jason Isaacs. It’s a portrait of loss, humanity, and rebirth with first-class cinematography. Showing at selected cinemas.

Don’t forget St.Faith’s Church, Summer Fair taking place from 2pm until 4pm on June 21. As usual, there will be plenty to enjoy, bargains to be had, refreshments to consume, and opportunities for enjoyable socialising.

Another suggestion for a great day out. The North Norfolk Railway is celebrating 50 years and is still steaming strong.

Why not discover The Poppy Line’s offerings and enjoy one of its special events and perhaps board one of it’s excellent Dining Trains? Book online and save 15%. Visit: www.nnnrailway.co.uk

Lastly, there’s no column next Friday, but it’s back with plenty of engaging and enterprising entertainment news the following week.
