Westacre Theatre opens One Million Tiny Plays About Britain on October 21
One Million Tiny Plays About Britain opens at Westacre Theatre on Friday, October 21.
If you write a play from pieces of conversation you overhear around the length and breadth of Britain, what perception of 21st century life might you produce?
Using a whole showcase of sketches, Westacre Theatre will present a portrait of all kinds of people during the course of a couple of hours, capturing the state we’re in by revealing open windows into the young and old, happy and sad, rich and poor.
So, there aren’t actually a million plays. But there are several dozen vignettes and you’ll probably lose count of them.
Because each lasts for such a short period of time, you won’t have a chance to get bored. But, come on, we all like to eavesdrop sometimes. If you don’t like one, we’ve already flicked over to something else!
You’re promised an eye-opener that’s entirely entertaining and awfully addictive - peering pertinently at some pressing problems of our time like the housing crisis, a strained NHS, and loneliness in the elderly.
Author Craig Taylor noted down relatable and relevant conversations which he heard; from 2006 The Guardian began publishing them each week.
Then came a book and now the stage adaptation.
Under director Matt Grist’s watchful eye, the colourful collage reflects Taylor’s expertly observed micro-dramas.
See for yourselves at one of the six performances between October 21 and October 29 (including a Saturday matinee); booking is at www.westacretheatre.com or call the box office on 01760 755007.
