Snow White at King's Lynn's Live Corn Exchange ticks all the right boxes
You know Christmas is coming when the Alive Corn Exchange pantomime gets under way, and this year’s offering is just as good as ever.
Chris Jordan’s Snow White faithfully tells the famous old fairytale, with all the awful jokes, songs, innuendo and audience participation we expect and love from a traditional, fun-filled family panto.
Lynn regulars Scott Cripps and Ian Marr return as Herbie the Huntsman and Dame Dolly respectively, and Siobhan Diffin (Narcissia), Lewes Roberts (Prince Simon of Sofaria) and Lizzie Emery (Snow White) all dazzle in their first West Norfolk panto.
There’s also a very special guest as the Mirror on the Wall and, although the ‘…and the Seven Dwarves’ bit has been removed from the title, we still meet the Magnificent Seven and they are still a major part of the show.
Popular songs are also a big part of a panto and we had those in abundance too, with Sweet Caroline, Everybody Needs Somebody To Love, Somewhere Only We Know, We Don’t Talk About Bruno, I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles) and festive favourites such as Frosty the Snowman and 12 days of Christmas to name but a few. Although the words aren't often how you remember them!
This was the first time my wife and I had been to a panto without our children, who have now decided they’re too old (they’ll come around eventually) but that didn’t matter at all and there were plenty of folks who’d left the kids behind and were clearly having a great time.
And a warning for any men booking seats near the front... Dame Dolly may be attracted to you. And if, like Keith in this show, you do get her attention, you're going to play a part in the show, whether you like it or not!
