The season is just starting for The National Garden Scheme, Gardens open for charity. Superb gardens will be open to visit between now and October in various locations.
Many of the gardens are located in East Anglia and are in private ownership not normally open to the public. A booklet is available with all the details or visit its website.
Now is certainly the time for booking holidays and day trips. Do take a look at the various Heritage Railways one can visit.
This week I suggest The North Norfolk Railway, which has exciting events lined up including a Valentine’s Evening Dinner and great Half-term Steam Train journeys. Visit its website for more information.
There are many fine attractions to visit in North Norfolk so do visit its website for further ideas of where to take an enjoyable trip out. I’ll feature some in future columns.
I’m combining my book and film recommendations this week.
Due for release on Valentine’s Day is the keenly awaited movie: Bridget Jones Mad About The Boy, it’s based on the book by bestselling author Helen Fielding, and boasts a cast including Hugh Grant, Renee Zellweger, Colin Firth, Emma Thompson, Jim Broadbent, Gemma Jones, Leo Woodall and many others. Wow.
Why not go see the movie and then read the book, (or the other way around), it’s a Vintage paperback.
Now to the world of theatre, Westacre Theatre is presenting Di and Viv and Rose by Amelia Bullmore between Thursday, March 13 and Saturday, March 22.
The story of three amazing women and one extraordinary friendship; it sees the start of Westacre’s in-house season. Further details can be found on its website.
Finally, The King’s Lynn WEA in association with The King’s Lynn Community Cinema Club are holding a day school with Christopher Budd titled ‘The Women who built the Film Industry’.
Tickets may still be available for those interested online.
