A series of Soul Nights at venues in Lynn are being arranged – with all the profits going to help local good causes.

They are being organised by Gordon Chilvers, a partner of Lynn firm Double G Clothing, who has had experience of such events in the past.

The first date is Saturday, February 13 (7.30pm to midnight) with a Valentines Soul/Motown/Northern disco with DJ Barry Francis at the Linnets Lounge (former Blue and Gold) at Lynn Town FC stadium, with Red Wellies as the chosen charity.

Gordon told the Lynn News: “I was off work seriously ill last year (with chronic pancreatitis and actually spent 114 days in the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

“In that time I experienced a lot but also saw other patients suffering from various health problems.

“I have decided now that my health is improving to hold Soul Nights in King’s Lynn with all profits from ticket sales going to local charities.

“It is about seven years since I regularly held Soul Nights in what was then the Blue and Gold club at King’s Lynn FC and also the end-of-season events in a marquee on the actual pitch.

“Over the next 12 months I have got four events booked and hopefully there will be more. One aim where possible is not to coincide with similar events on the same dates and hopefully myself and other promoters and DJs can cooperate on this.”

Tickets for the Valentines night are now on sale at £5, contact Gordon by phone or text on 07836 630564 for more details or to book.

The second event is on Saturday, April 16, once again at the Linnets Lounge with DJ Barry Francis and that will be supporting the local children’s charity Reach for a Star.

Looking further ahead to Saturday, September 17, the Adrian Flux Arena (speedway stadium) is the venue for a fantastic evening in store with Peterborough soul band Motor City Vipers along with DJ Barry Francis with a Soul/Motown/Northern Disco from 7.30pm till 2am. There will also be DJ John Hall spinning “Northern” on the verandah and also hopefully some guest DJs.

The chosen charity is the Magpie Centre, Riding for the Disabled and tickets will be £15.

The fourth event already arranged is twelve months ahead – Saturday, January 28, 2017, at Lynn Corn Exchange, huge Soul Night with Angelo Starr and The Team plus DJ Barry Francis, with the chosen charity to be confirmed; tickets will be £15.

Gordon adds: “Hopefully there will be others such as New Year’s Eve but these are to be confirmed, however the main aim is that the profits from all ticket sales will go to charities that are local to the King’s Lynn area.”
