Mallard String Quartet to perform at London Road Methodist Church in King’s Lynn to support venue and night shelter
A string quartet’s performance will bring an afternoon of music as part of Lynn’s Fringe Festival.
The Mallard String Quartet are performing on July 21 at 2.30pm at London Road Methodist Church.
With Elaine Sargent and Peter Threlfall on violins, Vina Threlfall on viola and Jenny Sargent on cello, the quartet began playing together during the Covid lockdowns when two households were allowed to meet up.
It was a hard time for musicians, as part of the charm of playing music is to play with other people and this had not been possible.
The quartet began playing together to keep their skills up. They found they enjoyed this and so continued.
Their audience in those early days were the ducks that came into their garden, hence the name Mallard Quartet.
This concert will consist of a variety of styles of music. They will be playing ‘String Quartet Opus 64, number 1’ by Haydn, as well as many well-known light classics, including ‘Queen of Sheba’ by Handel, ‘Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring’ by Bach, ‘The Entertainer’ by Scott Joplin and ‘Pavane’ by Fauré.
The concert is free, but with a retiring collection for the Lynn Night Shelter and London Road Methodist Church.
