The Norfolk Symphony Orchestra returns with new season of concerts at King’s Lynn’s Alive Corn Exchange
The Norfolk Symphony Orchestra is returning with its new season of concerts starting next week.
The concert conducted by music director, Steve Bingham with an orchestra joined by soloist Ariana Kashefi for the British-born composer, Anna Clyne’s haunting Cello Concerto will commence at 3.30pm on Sunday, November 17 at Lynn’s Alive Corn Exchange.
Praised for her innate musicianship and captivating stage presence, British-Persian cellist Ariana Kashefi is in high demand as a chamber musician and soloist performing in such venues as the Wigmore Hall, Pierre Boulez Saal, Berlin Philharmonie and more.
Ariana has a true love and passion for chamber music and regularly performs with many renowned artists.
She is a city music foundation artist and completed her Masters at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler in Berlin and has been awarded the Royal Philharmonic Society’s Julius Isserlis scholarship.
Ariana is also in high demand as a section principal and has been invited on several occasions as guest principal cello with the Britten Sinfonia, London Chamber Orchestra, RTÉ concert orchestra, West-Eastern Divan orchestra and more.
The concert will open with the dramatic Festival Overture by Dmitri Shostakovich, setting the scene for the Symphony No.5 by Shostakovich which from its dramatic opening to its triumphant finale, offers a symphonic journey that demands attention and rewards the listener with an unforgettable experience.
The orchestra, now presenting its 49th season of concerts is committed to producing music of the highest quality, performing varied and exciting programmes.
The orchestra will once again be giving away 100 free tickets to under-18s throughout this season.
It is hugely encouraging for the orchestra to find that there are so many enthusiastic supporters of classical music among the young people of the county.
The “magnificent” Fifth Symphony by Shostakovich will close the programme.
There are further concerts to enjoy over the season including in January show with music by Gershwin, Rimsky Korsakov and Bizet. This is a great way to celebrate the new year.
This will be followed in March with music by Borodin, Sibelius and Tchaikovsky. The May concert includes works by Finzi and Dvorak, with the final concert of the season in June including music by Brahms and Beethoven.
The season promises to be their best yet, with something for everyone to enjoy.
